Senior ESG Analyst

Purpose
As active investors, we believe the inclusion of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, analysis and research in the investment process is integral to fundamental financial analysis. Our stewardship focuses on using our influence to create long-term, sustainable value and better outcomes for our clients, society and the environment.
We have an ambitious sustainability strategy and the new position of Senior ESG Analyst will play a key role in delivering on this, working closely with the investment teams on ESG research, integration, engagement and risk oversight.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
• Working closely with investment teams across asset classes to further advance and deepen the integration of ESG research, analysis and stewardship, into the investment process
• Engage and support engagement with investment teams on material ESG issues, including collaborative and public policy engagement where appropriate
• Develop GAM-wide policies and frameworks on key sustainability theme
• Manage relationships with ESG data providers and support building appropriate internal ESG tools
• Prepare associated reporting and communication with clients
• Identify opportunities and where appropriate take responsiblity for additional initiatives and activities that contribute to the success of GAM’s sustainability strategy
Key skills and experience
• 6 to 10 years experience in ESG research and engagement and/or consulting
• Strong knowledge of ESG and sustainability issues from a thematic and sector perspective, in particular climate change
• Highly collaborative and team-oriented, within and across teams
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Strong sense of accountability and responsibility to produce high quality work and strive for continuous improvement
• Highly organised and self-motivated with an ability to organise and prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines
• IMC or higher degree in a sustainabilty-related subject an advantage

Jupiter’s stewardship approach is characterised by our active management and investment-led philosophy. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Governance & Sustainability team that sits within the heart of the Fund Management department and is part of the broader CIO Office. The role has been created through expansion of the team’s remit and to support the advancement of Jupiter’s ESG commitments.
You will gain significant exposure and participation with our Investment Teams. Engagement is the hallmark of our stewardship approach and you will play a significant role in working in partnership with our Fund Managers to engage with Company Boards, conduct portfolio monitoring and take ideas to Investment Teams. You will have access across our asset base; sustainable investments and solutions, developed, emerging and private markets, investment trusts, fund of funds and fixed income.
You will contribute to client reporting and oversight duties including RFP entries, monitoring of datasets and the creation of departmental literature. There is also an increased focus on adapting to developing regulations and best practice frameworks. Experience within these areas is also viewed favourably.
The successful candidate will have a background in ESG preferably gained within an Asset Management / owner setting. However, the demands placed on investors are ever changing and we are open to accepting applications from a broader pool who have experience of the regulatory / policy arena or the ESG data and research sector.

Corporate Governance Analyst

Purpose
Governance & Responsible Investment is a global team supporting Portfolio Managers across the various office locations. The Investment Analyst will be responsible for implementing the GRI policies as well as managing the proxy voting processes and associated engagement across the full range of GAM funds.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
• Be responsible for proxy voting and governance activities globally, helping to develop guidelines, processes and procedures
• Ensure the practical application of proxy voting guidelines across all markets – making vote recommendations and following up with investment teams – ensuring that our guidelines are adhered to
• Appropriately challenge investment teams on controversial voting decisions
• Responsible for liaising with the proxy voting operational team (in Zurich and Dublin), ensuring that all funds are on the ISS system across all custodians
• Develop the implementation and incorporation of Environmental, Social and Governance topics into proxy voting activities
• Engage with and oversee engagement with Investment teams on proxy voting recommendations
• Engage with and oversee engagement with investee companies on proxy voting and associated ESG issues

Qualifications & Experience
• Strong knowledge of Corporate Governance and Proxy Voting
• Undergraduate degree
• IMC or higher degree in associated subject e.g. Environmental Science or Sustainability an advantage
• Solid understanding of ESG topics supported by practical application of ESG research and engagement
• Track record of successfully working across teams
• Insight and experience of successful company engagement
• A high level of commercial awareness

Skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Able to work independently but also effective in a team environment
• Experience in working to tight deadlines
• Strong time and workflow management
• Professional in all interactions across the business
• Demonstrate thought leadership, highlighting core ESG risks and opportunities and communicate this to Portfolio Managers
