Board of Directors

UKSIF is governed by a board of directors.

 Directors serve in an individual capacity; organisation names are given for information only.


Martin Clarke (Chair)

Martin Clarke is Executive Director of Financial Risk at the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) where his responsibilities include oversight of its investments. The Pension Protection Fund is a signatory to the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

He is also a non-executive director at Congregational & General Insurance plc, a leading provider of church and home insurance.

A Cambridge-educated mathematician, actuary and Harvard Business School alumnus, Martin’s previous career was spent in retail financial services with the Co-operative Insurance Society, which he joined in 1977.

As marketing director at Co-operative Insurance in the 1990s, he launched ethical investment products and introduced voting disclosure, an engagement overlay, and an award-winning social accountability programme.

Martin has a special interest in corporate social responsibility and the development of sustainable and responsible investment.


Geoff Burnand, Charity Bank

Geoff Burnand is Chief Investment Officer at Charity Bank, the only bank in the UK that is also a registered charity.

Geoff is also CEO of Investing for Good, a specialist social finance intermediary to private banks, foundations, charities and social enterprises. Prior to this, he spent over twenty years in private and institutional investment management working with a wide variety of clients.


Sagarika Chatterjee (Vice Chair), F&C Management

Sagarika Chatterjee is an Associate Director in the Governance and Sustainable Investment (GSI) Team at F&C Management Ltd, a London-based global asset management company.

 

Sagarika joined F&C in 2002. Sagarika leads the team’s investor engagement programme on Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity, and specialises in Emerging Markets.  She also oversees research for F&C’s specialist funds, including the Stewardship Funds, Global Climate Opportunities Fund and Emerging Markets Equity ESG Strategy. 

 

Prior to joining F&C, Sagarika worked for the buying team of home improvement retailer Kingfisher, sourcing timber products from sustainably-managed forests.  Before this, she worked in higher education in China for two years.  Sagarika is also a Trustee of Earthwatch, an international environment charity involved in scientific research and outreach to companies.


Barry Clavin, Co-operative Financial Services

Barry Clavin is Ethical Policies and Sustainability Reporting Manager at The Co-operative Group. With a background in finance and marketing, Barry is responsible for the oversight of ethical finance at Co-operative Financial Services, the development of ethical policies for co-operative businesses, including The Co-operative Bank, and for the production of the Group’s award winning Sustainability Report. Barry is the author of the Ethical Consumerism Report.


Adam Frost, Sarasin & Partners

Adam Frost is Head of Governance, and Social and Environmental Research at Sarasin & Partners, a global thematic investment manager.

Since joining Sarasin & Partners in 2010, Adam has led the successful launch of the firm's socially responsible global equities fund. For the previous five years he worked for BP, where he was responsible for investments across the alternative energy industries. Prior to BP, he worked at McKinsey and at the private equity firm, Apax Partners, where he helped to launch the pioneering Bridges Community Ventures Fund. Adam was a Fulbright Scholar in corporate social responsibility at Harvard Business School.


David Harris, FTSE Group

David is Head of Responsible Investment at FTSE Group. FTSE’s RI indices include the FTSE4Good, the FTSE KLD Sustainability, and the Environmental Markets Index Series. His responsibilities include overseeing corporate engagement with index constituents, management of research providers, and development of new RI indices. David started his career with Arthur D. Little's Environment & Risk Practice, and has also worked for PwC's climate change team. He has an MSc in Environmental Technology, an IMC from the UK Society of Investment Professionals, and a first class degree in Biological Sciences from Oxford University. David also serves as a judge for the Financial Times Sustainable Banking Awards.


My-Linh Ngo, Henderson Global Investors 

My-Linh Ngo was until December 2011, Associate Director SRI Research in the Sustainable & Responsible Investment (SRI) team at Henderson Global Investors, a leading fund management company.  My-Linh had responsibility for sustainability and corporate responsibility (CR) analysis and engagement for Henderson SRI funds as well as communications, client and business development functions.  She has been active in the SRI industry since 2000.  She is currently serving a second three-year term as an UKSIF non-executive board director.

My-Linh has had extensive committee level experience, having been a participant of the Thomson-Reuters and GSK sustainability related advisory boards; the Access to Medicines Foundation Advisory Committee, as well as various UKSIF sub-committees (including the UKSIF Research & Analyst Services Advisory Group, National Ethical Investment Week Advisory board).

She has a BSc Hons degree in Environmental Sciences and two masters, one in Environmental Management, and the other on Leadership for Sustainable Development. My-Linh has also attained her Investment Management Certificate (IMC).


Roseanne Newbould, KPMG

Roseanne Newbould is a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. She works in the investment management and funds team of KPMG. Roseanne's audit clients include investment managers, pension funds, hedgefunds and other types of funds based in the UK and overseas.

Roseanne has a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Lincoln College, Oxford University. As part of her degree she specialised in environmental economics.

In 2010 Roseanne completed a secondment to KPMG's Climate Change and Sustainability Assurance and advisory team. She currently seconded to KPMG's Business Modelling Team.


Julian Parrott, Ethical Futures

Julian is an independent financial adviser specialising in ethical investment. A partner in Edinburgh-based firm Ethical Futures, he advises personal, SME, trust and charity clients throughout Scotland.

Julian has over 20 years experience in personal finance gained in management and adviser roles with institutions including building societies, life assurance companies and national IFA firms. In 2000 he decided to move out of the large company sector to develop his interest in ethical investment and financial planning advice. After four years as a director with the Ethical Investment Cooperative, Julian launched his current advisory practice, Ethical Futures.

Recently appointed Chair elect of the steering group the UKSIF IFA chapter, the Ethical Investment Association, Julian is keen to promote the merits of ethical and sustainable investment to the wider adviser community.

Julian is a member of the Personal Finance Society and in 2007 was named Money Management Ethical Investment Planner of the year.


Will Oulton, Mercer

Will joined Mercer in May 2010 as Head of Responsible Investment for Investment Consulting across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Previous to Mercer, Will was the Director of Responsible Investment at FTSE Group where he led the development of FTSE's global sustainability indices and services including the FTSE4Good, Environmental Markets and Carbon Strategy indices.

In June 2009, he edited the book "Investment Opportunities for a Low Carbon World" and in February 2010 was appointed as Vice President of the European Sustainable Investment Forum - EUROSIF. Will is also a Special Lecturer at Nottingham University Business School's International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility and sits on a number of investment industry advisory committees.


James Vaccaro, Triodos Bank

James Vaccaro is Managing Director of Investment Banking (UK) at Triodos Bank, which specialises in ethical investment and was awarded the title Sustainable Bank of the Year in 2009. He has worked for Triodos since 1998 and is a specialist in environmental and social finance.

He is the Managing Director of Triodos Renewables plc (which invests in renewable energy projects), has worked on venture capital funds across Europe and micorfinance projects in Africa & Asia and has been lead advisor for public share issues to a number of ethical PLCs including Cafedirect and the Ethical Property Company. He is a trustee of a local community development association and has been a non-executive director of several sustainability-led companies in the UK as part of venture capital portfolios.


Amanda Young, Newton Investment Management

Amanda Young is the SRI Officer at Newton Investment Management, heading up SRI research and engagement on behalf of Newton's institutional, retail, charity and private clients. Amanda joined Newton in 2008 and focuses on integrating environmental, social and governance matters into the investment process.

Amanda started her career at Rabobank International in economic research after graduating from Lancaster University in 1997, with a BSc in Psychology. Prior to working at Newton, Amanda was the Senior SRI Analyst at CCLA Investment Management, the specialist church and charity fund manager.

Amanda is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts following her work raising environmental and social awareness in business. Amanda is also a member of the UKSIF Research & Analyst Services Advisory Group.
